Extraordinary, charismatic and unique best-in-class dancers, artists and models – small aperture, dramatic light set up, nicely set sharpness accents, bright colors and unfathomable dark backgrounds often determine the image structure. Most series are on-going long-term projects.

BALLET PERFECTION – Ballet as a technique, like other classical Baroque figurative arts, is known for it’s favored symmetry, it’s dynamic balance, and the at most harmony of the entire body.

AFRICAN VOGUE – In the remote Omo valley, southwest of Ethiopia, where the earliest known Homo sapiens remains have been found, reside over 500,000 indigenous tribal people. The tribes have been painting their bodies with pulverized minerals for millenia. The Series contains more than 400 portraits of members of seven different tribes.

CLOWNS – Commedia dell‘arte. The images of the series “Commedia dell‘arte” portray various impersonators of a clown. Exclusively invited by famous venues, Buehler portrayed artists in Russia and in Central Europe such as at the 40th anniversary of the Monte Carlo Circus Festival.

MASQUERADE – A mask is typically worn for protection, disguise, performance, or entertainment. Masks have been used since antiquity for ceremonial and practical purposes. The word „mask“ appeared in the 1530s, from French masque „covering to hide or guard the face“. The oldest representations are animal masks. Such masks survive in the alpine regions of Austria and Switzerland, and may be connected with hunting or shamanism, and tend to be associated with the New Year and Carnival festivals. Alfred Jarry, Pablo Picasso, Oskar Schlemmer, and other artists experimented with masks in their work.

DRAG QUEENS – A folk etymology is that drag is an acronym of „Dressed Resembling A Girl“ in description of male theatrical transvestism. Men performing as women was mandated in early theater in England around 1660. Women were not allowed to perform on stage. While drag is very much associated with gay culture, there are drag artists of all sexualities and gender identities. The first photograph of this series was taken at the Cabaret Club in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 2016.
