About the Norwegian National Ballet

A performance of Melissa Hough’s Epic Short, from Norwegian National Ballet’sSleepless Beauty project, set to music from Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto. Epic Short is an ironic reflection on the image of a classical ballerina in the modern world. The work was premièred in April this year and received a Critic’s Choice award as the best première from Dance Europe Magazine.The Norwegian National Ballet consists of 67 Norwegian and international dancers. Besides classics like Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker the company’s repertoire covers new creations as well as works by internationals masters such as Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot as well as Liam Scarlett and Alexander Ekman. Resident choreographers are Alan Lucien Øyen and Jo Strømgren.

The Festival was founded in the year of the 100th anniversary of Sergei Diaghilev’s Les Saisons Russes in St Petersburg, which had given to the great impresario of the XX century the initial start and inspiration. Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev is a Russian theater and art figure, one of the founders of the World of Art group, the organizer of the Russian Seasons in Paris and the Diaghilev Russian Ballet troupe, an entrepreneur.
